The History Museum recognizes the recently heightened demands placed upon educators, and acknowledges the challenges of coordinating multiple field trips within a school year. In response, we can now bring our highly regarded educational offerings directly to your institution. We offer comprehensive in-class/in-school, hands-on educational programs tailored to your students' academic needs.

About the Museum

The Saratoga Springs History Museum was founded in 1883 with an unwavering commitment to preserving the cultural heritage of Saratoga Springs for future generations. Situated within the historic Canfield Casino in Congress Park since 1912, the History Museum has curated dynamic rotating exhibitions and facilitated engaging public programs and invaluable research through its extensive photo and documentary archive. Our mission has been to delve into the historical fabric of the Spa City and its surrounding region.

Educational Program Opportunities 2024–2025

Elementary Level

"Journey Through Saratoga: A Day in the Life"

Duration: 45 minutes per auditorium presentation or 30 minutes for in-class sessions.

Target Grades: 3rd to 5th (with a focus on local history for 4th grade).

This immersive program seeks to replicate the experiences of Victorian-era travelers who used “Saratoga Trunks.” Our educators will bring an actual trunk filled with authentic artifacts from our museum's collection, facilitating an interactive learning experience. This tactile engagement allows students to intimately explore items directly linked to their local heritage.

Format:

Our educators will adopt a conversational approach, utilizing the artifacts to expound on the following themes related to 19th-century living:

  • The immigrant experience, encompassing the migration to upstate New York for employment, including the minority perspective.

  • Modes of 19th-century travel, encompassing waterways, railroads, and early road systems.

  • Comparative analysis of 19th-century and contemporary vacations in New York, employing artifacts from Saratoga's grand hotels and Victorian-era souvenirs.

  • Exploration of Saratoga's renowned mineral springs, intertwined with the region's geological facets.

Program Fees:

Our standard packages encompass in-class sessions and auditorium presentations:

$500: Three (3) 30-minute in-class programs and one (1) 45-minute auditorium presentation.

$800: Up to five (5) 30-minute programs and one (1) 45-minute auditorium presentation.

In addition, institutions that engage in any of the above programs will qualify for a 50% reduction on our Spring and Summer Museum and Congress Park Tour/Field Trip fees. Standard student rates of $8 will be adjusted to $4 per student.

Please be aware that certain presentations may incorporate PowerPoint materials, necessitating AV equipment. Additional charges will apply if the History Museum is requested to provide AV equipment.

Your engagement with the Saratoga Springs History Museum will undoubtedly enhance your students' educational journey, offering a profound connection to the historical legacy of the region. Please note that Middle School Programs for grades 6, 7 and 8 will be announced in the coming months.
