Saratoga and West Point - Separated by Distance Not by History with Richard Chait

  • 1 E. Congress Street Saratoga Springs, NY, 12866 United States (map)

The Saratoga area and West Point have much in common. Both have played key roles in the nation’s fight for independence. This talk details West Point’s unique geography and strategic location on the Hudson River preventing the British’s advance north from New York City.

Following the Revolution, President Jefferson sought a site to enhance the education of the nation’s military and chose West Point. History has shown that through the years the military institution has been tied to Saratoga and the surrounding area on several occasions.

This talk will examine these and other similarities.
